National Peace Council mourns the death of Mr. Kingsley Rodrigo

Mr. Kingsley Rodrigo, former member of Governing Council of National Peace Council, Sri Lanka, passed away in the evening of August 16. Mr. Rodrigo was also the founder of local election monitoring body, PAFFREL. He was of age 55 years at the time of his death, and had been ailing for six months. He died of a heart attack, his family said.

National Peace Council of Sri Lanka conducted a workshop on 17th amendment on Saturday the 11th July, 2009 in Trincomalee. The event took place at the main event hall at Club Oceanic Hotel in Trincomalee. Dr.S.I. Keethapongalon, Head of the Department of Political science at University of Colombo, and Mr. S.G.Punchihewa, Senior Lawyer, were invited as resource persons.

A Statement Eluded Peace
The widely advertised ‘war for peace’ came to an end came to an end more than three years ago. Yet the fruits of this peace are yet to be enjoyed by the people in the North, who were most affected mentally, physically and economically. This reality is verified by the day to day events which are taking place here. The hop for a real peace is declining day by day. The Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Diocese of Jaffna feels that it is its historic duty to point out this in order that a way may open to establish a just, democratic and peaceful community in Sri Lanka.
