People’s Response To Setting Up TJ Mechanisms

One of NPC’s main areas of work this year has been to spread awareness on Transitional Justice (TJ) at the grassroots level. NPC is supporting the government’s measures to go ahead with establishing the best mechanisms to implement TJ in Sri Lanka to move the country from a post-war situation to one where people of different religions and ethnicities live in unity and harmony.

NPC has established District Inter Religious Committees (DIRCs) composed of religious and community leaders to solve contentious issues. NPC also works with partners and activists at district level. Participants who attended the DIRC meetings in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Matara, Kurunegala and Anuradhapura in March were asked four questions regarding the TJ process. Their answers are given below.
