On the Saturday, the 14th of March 2009, National Peace Council of Sri Lanka, held a workshop on Islam, Muslim and Pluralism, in Dhadalla, Galle. The participants included well known personals Mr. Ajiwadeen of BMCNU, Br. M. M. Ishak Ahamed, Head of Operations, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, Hon. Vajira Abeyawardena, M.P., Al-Haj Aun, Galle, and Dr. Jehan Perera of NPC.
The programme commenced with a welcome note and introduction by Mr. Ajewadeen, followed by a presentation of objectives of NPC in relation to Pluralism by Dr. Jehan Perera.
Br. M.M.Ishak Ahamed continued with the topic of Pluralism in Islam. Al-Haj Aun followed with an elaboration of Muslim-Sinhala relationship, and the historical perspectives.
Hon. Vajira Abeywardena, M.P., spoke about the Muslim-Sinhala relationship, and the Socio-economic and political perspectives. The morning session concluded after the Lunch Prayer with a break for Lunch.
The Evening session re-convened with Dr. Jehan Perera chairing the Group Discussion on challenges and the strategies for co-existence. An Action committee was established to follow up on item discussed and marked for action.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks from Dr. Perera.
