A Media Seminar is taking place on the 10th of March, 2009 at Global Towers, Conference Hall, as a whole day event. NPC personals and Muslim religious and civil society leaders will take part in this event, organized and hosted by NPC.
Genuine pluralism requires that different groups posses an accurate understanding of each other’s interests, needs and positions. Media is the most effective mechanism for diss
eminating knowledge and ideas throughout the society. However, the media in Sri Lanka often fails to address issues affecting the Muslim community due to many journalists’ lack of understanding, communication and interaction with Muslims. As a result, the Muslim community is often rendered invisible in the public eye.
In addition to covering the principles and methods of analyzing subject matter through a pluralistic lens, the seminar will increase participating journalists’ understanding about the most significant issues currently affecting the Muslim population and the importance of raising awareness throughout the country about the community’s role in Sri Lanka. Resource persons will include Muslim religious and civil society leaders in order to both give participants and authoritative perspective on the workshop topics, and also to establish a sustainable network between media personnel and the Muslim communities.
